In water births, the new born baby does not take its first breathe until it is removed from the water but what if the mother never took the baby out of the water, never cut the umbilical cord and never passed the placenta? Could the baby live under water (still attached to its mother) for the rest of its life? They could feed and breathe through its mother who would live on the surface. This would be a good experiment.
